In Springfield, USA, Mohammed Ajaruddin Chipa was sentenced to 30 years and 4 months in prison for financially supporting the terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS). The court found that from October 2019 to October 2022, he raised and sent over $185,000 in cryptocurrencies to support female ISIS members in Syria.

Funding Terrorist Activities

According to court documents, the funds were used for:

  • financing prison breaks;
  • supporting ISIS militants;
  • organizing terrorist attacks.

Chipa actively used social media to raise funds, receiving donations electronically and traveling thousands of miles to obtain cash, which he then converted into cryptocurrency. The transfers were sent to Turkey, from where the money was smuggled into Syria.

“This defendant directly financed ISIS in its attempts to carry out horrific terrorist acts against innocent people in America and around the world. If you fund terrorism — we will hold you accountable and lock you away for decades,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi.

Accountability for Terrorism Financing

Federal Prosecutor for Virginia Eric Siebert emphasized the need to hold accountable not only the direct perpetrators of attacks but also those who finance terror. He noted that Chipa knowingly transferred significant sums for the violent activities of an organization that seeks to impose extremism on the world.

In December 2024, a federal jury found him guilty on several counts, including conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist organization. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the bureau is actively pursuing anyone who aids terrorists.

It is worth mentioning that in March 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice uncovered a scheme to finance Hamas terrorists exceeding 200,000 USDT.
