State of Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plants: Most Units Operating Normally After Attacks

Electricity production at the Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, and South Ukraine nuclear power plants has returned to normal levels following recent attacks on the energy infrastructure. This information was released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), noting that almost all reactors at these plants are currently operating at full capacity.

Operation of Nuclear Plants After Attacks

According to the IAEA, only one reactor remains in operation at reduced capacity, while the other units have returned to standard operating mode. All high-voltage power lines damaged as a result of the attacks have already been restored, contributing to the stabilization of the country’s energy balance.

IAEA Mission and Situation at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

The IAEA is preparing to send an expert team to inspect substations that are critically important for ensuring nuclear safety. Specialists are to assess the extent of the damage and its potential impact on the operation of nuclear power plants.

Regarding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which remains under Russian control, IAEA representatives are working at the site. They report ongoing military activity near the facility, which poses additional risks for the safe operation of the plant.

“On some days, the team (of IAEA experts – UNIAN) reported hearing explosions and gunfire approximately 20 times, and sometimes even much more frequently.”

The IAEA continues to monitor the situation at all nuclear power plants in Ukraine, paying special attention to ensuring safety and stability of energy supply.
