In Ukraine, during the ongoing war, there has been a significant change in the labor market, reflected in the stabilization of the situation. In particular, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of vacancies for military personnel, medical professionals, and lawyers. However, specialists in the IT industry are facing considerable difficulties in finding jobs, as evidenced by the research data from work.ua.
This is reported by Finway
Compared to January 2022, there are more vacancies in 16 job categories, while in 12 categories, they have decreased. This contrasts with last year’s data, which showed a decrease in the number of vacancies in 19 categories. At the same time, the number of vacancies in categories such as Finance and Banking (+2%), Service Sector (+1%), Marketing, Advertising, PR (+1%), Accounting, Audit (+0.6%), and Top Management (+0.3%) has remained virtually unchanged.
Increase in Vacancies in Military and Medical Sectors
The most significant increase in the number of vacancies is observed in the military sector, where there was no separate military recruitment direction before the full-scale invasion. Currently, over 600 units are posting nearly 9,000 vacancies on the platform. When comparing data from January 2022 to February 2025, the absolute leaders in the number of vacancies are:
- deminer – from 1 to 377;
- shooter – from 3 to 735;
- mortar commander – from 1 to 135;
- drone engineer – from 5 to 202;
- drone operator – from 18 to 702;
- section operator – from 6 to 198.
Regarding the medical sector, the large number of vacancies is due to challenges related to the war. The World Health Organization (WHO) previously reported an increase in the incidence of infectious diseases in Ukraine. The Minister of Health noted that cardiovascular diseases have “younger” by 10-15 years, leading to an increased demand for medical services.
Decrease in Vacancies in the IT Sector
However, the situation in the IT sector is the opposite: the number of vacancies has decreased by 36%. This has become a new reality for specialists: Game Developer (-87%), Java Developer (-86%), JavaScript Developer (-84%), Android Developer (-83%), iOS Developer (-81%), layout designer (-75%), and game designer (-71%).
“The most noticeable increase in the number of vacancies is expectedly seen for positions in the military,” notes work.ua.
