Russia has concentrated 106,000 troops in the Pokrovsk direction – situation at the front

On the line of combat engagement, the situation remains complicated – this was reported by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. According to him, the Russian Federation has intensified offensive actions almost along the entire front line while simultaneously regrouping its troops.

Pokrovsk direction under the greatest enemy pressure

According to Syrskyi, the most tense situation is currently observed in the Pokrovsk direction, where Russian troops have concentrated approximately 106,000 personnel. The enemy’s activity remains high in other areas as well – particularly in the Ocheretyne, Oleksandrivske, Kupiansk, and Kostiantynivka directions, as well as along the state border with Russia.

The Commander-in-Chief emphasized that Ukrainian defenders continue to hold their positions and, under favorable conditions, transition to active actions. He also noted that despite the constant pressure, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to carry out tasks on the territory of the Russian Federation, particularly maintaining their presence in the Kursk region.

“The key to success lies in active defense and initiative on the battlefield. This allows for exhausting the enemy, restoring positions, and inflicting maximum losses on the foe. Daily, the Russian army loses no less than a thousand servicemen killed and wounded,” Syrskyi stated following a meeting on the activities of the Armed Forces in April.

Restoration of equipment, Deep Strike strikes, and new approaches to military staffing

Syrskyi reported that in April, 84 targets were hit in the depth of Russian territory using Deep Strike capabilities. Additionally, last month, the volume of international military-technical assistance increased; however, the Commander-in-Chief emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s own capabilities in repairing and restoring military equipment.

Particular attention in the command is given to issues of mobilization and recruitment. Work is currently underway to implement the initiative of the President of Ukraine regarding the gradual transition of the military from a mobilization to a contractual staffing model. Following the meeting, Syrskyi instructed to prepare specific proposals for the General Staff regarding new formats of contractual service.

A separate topic was the issue of mandatory replacement of military personnel at the front lines. As Syrskyi noted, the corresponding instruction has already been developed and signed – it stipulates the replacement of servicemen no later than two months of being on the front line, with an additional month for rotation.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on April 23 described the situation at the front as special, emphasizing that the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have become more stable compared to previous months and years. At the same time, Zelenskyy noted that Russia does not cease preparations for further air attacks on Ukraine.
