Need for Full Restoration of the Energy System
Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services Serhiy Nahorniak emphasized that restoring Ukraine’s energy system requires significant financial resources. According to him, ensuring the reliable operation of the sector requires not only repairing facilities but also creating additional protection mechanisms against attacks.
“We need to restore the energy system, and it requires enormous financial expenditures. It also needs additional protection, which also requires huge financial resources,” said the politician.
Kyiv Remains in the Most Difficult Situation
According to Serhiy Nahorniak, the capital of Ukraine is in the worst condition in terms of energy supply. The reason for this is the high electricity consumption in Kyiv and the surrounding satellite cities. The deputy emphasized that the city has always required significant amounts of electricity, which came from nuclear power plants, and this feature is well known to the enemy.
The politician noted that Russian troops have targeted not only the “Ukrenergo” substations but also key overhead lines that connect nuclear power plants with substations and regional energy companies. Such shelling has caused significant damage to the infrastructure and created additional difficulties in restoring electricity supply.
Nahorniak stressed that full restoration of power lines and the operation of substations requires time. It is also necessary to ensure that nuclear power plants can restore the operation of power units to nominal capacity, which may take more than a day.
