Power Supply to Zaporizhzhia NPP Restored After Month-Long Blackout

Energy workers have completed repair work and restored electricity supply at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. For the past month, the plant has been in a state of complete blackout due to constant shelling and damage to power lines by Russian occupying forces.

Repair of the 750 kV Line and Further Works

The restoration of power became possible after the completion of repairs on the 750 kV “Dniprovska” high-voltage line. Currently, specialists are continuing work on the 330 kV “Ferosplavna” line, which will enhance the stability of the plant’s electricity supply in the future.

A Threat to All of Europe

Throughout the entire period of external power loss, the safety of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe was ensured solely by emergency diesel generators. This situation posed a critical threat to nuclear and radiation safety for Ukraine and all of Europe.

“This allowed the plant to be taken out of the state of complete – the tenth blackout – in which it had been for the past month,” noted Hrynchuk.

Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk also emphasized that the prolonged power outage was a result of actions by Russian occupying forces, who systematically shell the power lines connecting the NPP to the unified energy system of Ukraine.
