Power outages in Ukraine extended due to Russian strikes on the energy system

As a result of a massive strike by Russian forces on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on the night of December 6, residents in many regions are facing prolonged power outages. According to the head of the “Ukrenergo” management, Vitaliy Zaychenko, as of today, in most regions of the country, power supply interruptions last from 12 to 16 hours, significantly exceeding previous figures.

Repair of the energy system may take weeks

After the missile strike, which severely damaged energy infrastructure facilities, restoring stable operation of the power grid requires significantly more time than before. According to Vitaliy Zaychenko’s estimates, energy workers will need not just a few days, but several weeks for the complete restoration of the system’s normal functioning.

“Unfortunately, the outages in most regions of Ukraine are not lasting until 8 PM, but probably until 12 PM or 4 PM… Due to the strikes on the energy system, the duration of outages has increased.”

The importance of saving electricity

The head of the “Ukrenergo” management emphasized that the situation in the energy sector remains challenging. He urged Ukrainians to change their consumption behavior and minimize electricity use during peak hours. According to him, this is the only way to help energy workers stabilize the system and reduce the duration of outages in the coming weeks.
