In Poland, starting in 2026, fees for driver’s licenses and license plates will increase

Drivers in Poland should prepare for another price hike, which will affect both the issuance of driver’s licenses and the registration of vehicle license plates.

Reasons for the review of fees for driver’s documents

The Polish Ministry of Infrastructure has announced changes to two regulations aimed at aligning the cost of services with the actual expenses for producing documents and license plates. The ministry notes that the current fees have long been out of sync with the economic situation — they have not been changed for over 20 years. For example, the fee for issuing driver’s licenses has remained unchanged for 12 years, while the fees for registration documents and license plates have stayed the same for a full 21 years.

“During this time, the prices of materials, official forms, salaries, and services have significantly increased. Therefore, the ministry proposes a one-time fee increase of 15.41%.”

What the new prices for driver’s documents and license plates will be

After the new rates are introduced in 2026, the fees will be as follows:

  • Driver’s license — 115.50 zlotys (previously 100),
  • International driver’s license — 40.50 zlotys (replacing the previous 35),
  • Registration certificate — 62.50 zlotys (previously 54),
  • Temporary permit — 16 zlotys (previously 13.50).

In turn, the cost of license plates will also increase:

  • Car license plates — 92.50 zlotys (was 80),
  • Motorcycle plates — 46.50 zlotys (previously 40),
  • Moped plates — 35 zlotys (instead of 30).

The price for personalized license plates will increase particularly noticeably — it will triple to 3000 zlotys. Additionally, for a duplicate of a license plate, the full cost will need to be paid, rather than just half as it was previously.

The mentioned fee increases are planned to be implemented starting in 2026. By 2033, all drivers will be required to replace their licenses with new ones.
