On the night in eastern Poland, near the village of Jaroszowa Wola in the Masovian Voivodeship, a railway accident occurred — a freight train traveling from Szczecin to Chełm towards Ukraine derailed.
This is reported by Finway
Incident Circumstances and Preliminary Conclusions
A total of six out of thirty-five cars of the train, which was transporting fuel oil, derailed. As a result of the accident, the cars rolled off the embankment and ended up on their sides outside the railway track. According to rescue services, no fuel leakage from the damaged cars has been recorded.
The Polish authorities preliminarily believe that the cause of the incident may have been severe frosts, which also caused an accident with the contact network. At the same time, power supply at the accident site was disconnected to ensure the safety of rescuers and to control the situation.
Response to the Aftermath of the Accident
Twenty-four fire service units, police, representatives of the railway security service, and special service employees promptly arrived at the scene of the accident. Specialists are currently assessing the extent of damage to the cars and taking measures to restore safe movement on the section of the railway track.
“The actual cause will be determined by the State Commission for Railway Accident Investigation… At this time, we do not assume external factors,” said Wiesław Szczepanski, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland, during a radio broadcast.
The investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing, and the competent authorities are working to restore train traffic on this section of international railway communication.
