US Plans 500% Tariff for Russia’s Partners Who Do Not Support Ukraine

The United States is preparing to implement new stringent economic measures against countries that maintain trade ties with Russia but refrain from supporting Ukraine. This was reported by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham in an interview with an American television channel.

Economic Pressure Through High Tariffs

According to Lindsey Graham, a 500% tariff is planned on goods from those countries that continue to import products from Russia but do not provide assistance to Ukraine. This move aims to intensify pressure on states that maintain economic relations with the Russian Federation while simultaneously encouraging them to change their foreign policy stance regarding the war in Ukraine.

“If you are importing products from Russia and at the same time are not providing assistance to Ukraine – your goods will be subject to a 500% tariff,” he stated, explaining the essence of the initiative.

Primary Targets — China and India

The senator noted that the initiative for such economic restrictions was personally proposed by Donald Trump during an informal conversation. It is expected that the new tariffs will primarily target China and India, which remain key trading partners of the Russian Federation and significantly support its economy during the period of sanction pressure.

It is anticipated that the introduction of such high tariffs will create a substantial barrier for exports from the respective countries to the US, as well as compel them to reassess their relations with Russia and their stance on supporting Ukraine.
