Optimism of Ukrainian Business Grows Despite Geopolitical Challenges

Despite geopolitical instability, the long-term economic expectations of Ukrainian businesses have started to improve. According to the results of a monthly survey conducted by the Institute of Economic Research, the optimism index has risen from 0.11 to 0.15 points.

The main factors behind this improvement include a decrease in the share of enterprises planning to reduce their activities — only 1.4% of respondents — and an increase in those expecting positive changes — from 14% to 16%. However, medium-term expectations for the next six months have become somewhat worse, and the level of uncertainty regarding the overall economic environment has increased by 1.5%.

Turning Points in the Economy

February marked a turning point, as discussions about a possible end to the war or a freezing of the conflict intensified, which undoubtedly influenced the rise in uncertainty in the medium term. At the same time, about 62% of enterprises are operating at full capacity or with a load of over 75%. The share of companies with a load of less than 25% has decreased from 8% to 4%.

Stability in Industry

However, the aggregated indicator of industrial prospects, used by Eurostat and the OECD, has remained virtually unchanged, staying at 0.12.
