A New Waste Management System with Renewable Fuel from CHP Plants is Being Introduced in Ukraine

Ukraine is currently developing a new waste management system that involves the creation of cluster concepts. One of the first implementations will be a project for the Uzhhorod cluster, located in Transcarpathia. Experts are currently analyzing the existing waste management system and forecasting the volumes of waste generation for the next decade.

This is reported by Finway

According to forecasts, by 2034, the population of the Uzhhorod cluster, including internally displaced persons, may reach 285,000, with waste volumes expected to be approximately 144,000 tons per year. As part of this project, the establishment of a sorting station, a mechanical-biological treatment facility, and a modern landfill for waste disposal is planned. Additionally, there is consideration for the creation of a combined heat and power plant (CHP) using renewable fuel made from waste. By 2034, at least 16 points for the separate collection of household waste are also planned to be established in the Uzhhorod cluster.

Advantages of the Cluster Waste Management System

The introduction of the cluster waste management system will significantly enhance the resilience and competitiveness of enterprises engaged in waste disposal in this region. These changes will make the system more attractive to investors, contributing to the development of infrastructure and environmental safety.
