Accessible Space for All Residents

The new project includes not only the installation of the fountain but also a comprehensive renovation of the public space in accordance with the principles of accessibility and modern urban environment standards. The area will be convenient and accessible for all categories of residents and visitors to the capital.

“In the center of Kyiv, plans are underway to update the public space at the corner of Taras Shevchenko Boulevard and Khreshchatyk Street, making it barrier-free and comfortable for everyone. The project involves the arrangement of the area according to accessibility principles and modern urban environment standards,” the statement reads.

Involvement of Benefactors and Consideration of Residents’ Needs

Valentyn Mondryivskyi, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, noted that the implementation of the project will take place with the support of benefactors. He emphasized that after the monument was demolished in 2013, this area remained inaccessible for many pedestrians, including people with disabilities and parents with strollers. Currently, the square in front of the Bessarabsky Market does not meet modern standards and is not being fully utilized.

According to Mondryivskyi, the new space will be created with consideration of accessibility requirements, current regulations, and the characteristics of the location. All work is planned to be completed within the next year.

It is worth noting that the Lenin monument in Kyiv was toppled during the Revolution of Dignity in December 2013.
