On April 3, Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko announced that a general tariff of 10% has been imposed on exports to the United States. This statement was a response to the new customs tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump the day before.

“What do the new tariffs from the US mean for Ukraine? It’s difficult, but not critical. A general tariff of 10% will apply to us. There is no separate higher tariff, like Moldova’s 31% or the EU’s 20%, regarding Ukraine”
, Svyrydenko noted on her official Facebook page.
According to the minister, in 2024, Ukraine exported goods worth $874 million to the US, of which $363 million were iron supplies, and another $112 million were pipes. At the same time, imports of goods from the United States reached $3.4 billion.
The minister also emphasized:
“Our tariffs on American goods are quite low – 10% on cars, and 0% on coal and oil. Therefore, we currently have a chance to negotiate better terms – the American statement clearly indicates such a possibility”
.
Svyrydenko believes that if the situation remains unchanged, the new universal US tariff will primarily affect small producers.
“We are already working to ensure better conditions for Ukraine. We export over 600 different categories of goods to the US (very diverse – even wrenches), of which 65 types of products are worth more than $1 million. Ukraine has much to offer the United States as a reliable ally and partner. Both our countries will benefit from fair tariffs”
.
It should be noted that on April 2, US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of tariffs on goods from around the world that will be imported into the US. The basic tariff rate on imports of all foreign goods will be 10%. For European Union countries, it will be 20%, for China – 34%, for South Korea – 25%, for Japan – 24%, and for India – 26%.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the new tariffs a serious blow to the global economy and stated that the European Union is ready to take countermeasures if negotiations with Washington do not yield results.
“Severe countermeasures” were also promised by China.
