Significant Investments and Leading Experts on the Team

Within MSL, teams focused on developing large language models, fundamental research, and the company’s AI products will be consolidated. The leadership of this newly established division will be entrusted to leading industry experts. One of the leaders will be Alexander Wang, founder of Scale AI, who will take on the role of Chief AI Officer. In June 2025, Meta acquired a 49% stake in Scale AI for $14.3 billion, highlighting the ambitious nature of the company’s plans.

The team will also include former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman. As part of the restructuring, Meta has already hired 11 experts from leading tech companies, including OpenAI, DeepMind, Anthropic, and Google. Among the new hires are: Jiawei Yu, Shuchao Bi, Shengjia Zhao, Hongyu Ren, and former Meta engineer Joel Poblete. The company is offering competitive compensation packages, including bonuses of up to $100 million, to attract top talent amid increasing competition in the AI sector.

Meta is prepared to invest “hundreds of billions” of dollars in AI infrastructure, research initiatives, and talent acquisition to maintain its leadership in this key technology of the future

Development Plans and Competition in the AI Market

MSL will include existing Meta divisions, such as the fundamental research team FAIR and developers of large language models. The company is creating a specialized lab for the development of the next generation of AI models. These changes are aimed at strengthening Meta’s position in the rapidly growing sector of generative artificial intelligence.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, the development of superintelligence is “the beginning of a new era for humanity,” and Meta aims to lead this process. Analysts note that the corporation is actively competing with OpenAI and Google, having already invested tens of billions of dollars in infrastructure by 2025. Meta is also considering acquiring AI startups such as PlayAI and Runway.

Media reports indicate that Mark Zuckerberg is personally involved in negotiations with key experts, inviting them to his home in California. This approach demonstrates Meta’s serious intentions to secure a leadership position in the global artificial intelligence market.
