Amazon has announced a massive investment of $10 billion in North Carolina aimed at expanding cloud infrastructure and supporting the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. According to the company’s plans, the majority of the funds will be directed towards the construction of new data centers, which will create hundreds of new jobs and significantly strengthen the state’s technology sector.

Infrastructure Expansion and Job Creation
As part of the new project, Amazon plans to open modern data centers that will facilitate the implementation of innovative cloud and AI solutions. It is expected that at least 500 high-paying technical jobs will be created, including positions for data center engineers, network specialists, infrastructure managers, security experts, and other IT professionals. In addition to the primary vacancies, the investment will spur growth in related industries such as construction and logistics.
“AI is changing the way we work and innovate, and I am pleased that North Carolina will remain at the forefront of technological progress thanks to companies like Amazon. Amazon’s investment is one of the largest in the state’s history,” said Governor Josh Stein.
Long-Term Effects and Educational Initiatives
The company emphasized that the sharp increase in demand for high-performance computing and cloud solutions is driven by the rapid development of generative AI. As noted by Amazon’s Director of Global Affairs, David Zapolski, this initiative positions North Carolina as a national center for innovation and technology.
Since 2010, Amazon has already invested $12 billion in North Carolina, helping to add over $13.1 billion to the state’s GDP and supporting more than 50,000 jobs, of which 24,000 are directly within the company and another 26,000 in related fields.
As part of the new investment program, Amazon is also implementing vocational training and educational initiatives. These include courses for data center technicians, workshops on fiber optic welding, and programs for teachers and students that prepare youth for careers in high technology.
Recently, Amazon introduced the Vulcan robot for warehouse automation, which performs tasks that were previously only available to humans. Additionally, the company has entered into a licensing agreement with The New York Times, allowing the use of the publication’s editorial content in its own AI systems.
