Record Temperatures and Precipitation in May
According to the official data from the observatory, the average monthly air temperature in May was 16.3°C. This is 0.5 degrees above the long-term average for this month. Throughout the month, three temperature records were set, further confirming the warming trend.
“The average monthly air temperature in May was 16.3°C, which is above the climatic norm by 0.5°C. Three temperature records were recorded during the month.”
The lowest temperature was recorded on May 1, when the thermometer dropped to 4.2 degrees in the early morning. Meanwhile, on May 6, the temperature reached 29.9 degrees, which became the maximum and a new temperature record for this date.
As for precipitation, 56 mm fell on Science Avenue in Kyiv over the month, which is 86% of the monthly norm. This level of precipitation indicates a relatively dry May, although the figure is close to the long-term average value.
Warming Trends in Kyiv
It should be noted that a similar dynamic was observed in spring: in March 2026, the average monthly temperature in Kyiv was 6.7 degrees, which exceeds the climatic norm by 4.2 degrees. According to meteorologists’ observations, March ranked fourth in the list of the warmest months in the history of measurements.
Thus, observations of weather conditions in Kyiv over the past months confirm the trend of rising average temperatures and the establishment of new records, which is a sign of climate change in the region.
