Details of the Idemitsu Maru voyage

Idemitsu Maru, operated by a subsidiary of the Japanese oil refining corporation Idemitsu Kosan, delivered 2 million barrels of crude oil to Japan. The vessel sails under the Panamanian flag. At the end of February, the tanker entered the Persian Gulf, where it loaded oil in Saudi Arabia. However, due to the onset of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, it was forced to remain off the coast of Abu Dhabi for several weeks.

Situation with passage through the Strait of Hormuz

According to sources, on April 28, Idemitsu Maru crossed the Strait of Hormuz without paying any transit fees to the Iranian side. This was an important event for Japanese oil operators, as the situation for transporting energy resources has significantly complicated since the start of the war.

Another Japanese tanker owned by Eneos Holdings also recently passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Its arrival in Japan is expected at the end of May – beginning of June.
