Ukraine and Japan to Expand Cooperation in Drone and Digital Infrastructure

Ukraine and Japan have identified priority areas for developing bilateral partnership, with particular focus on unmanned technologies. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized Ukraine’s readiness for active collaboration with Japan in this field, including joint drone production, based on the experience gained during the war with Russia.

“We are currently world leaders in drone production. We are ready to share our experience with Japan and collaborate in production, for example, of drones,” he stated, adding that this would be “mutually beneficial.”

New Opportunities for Cooperation in Various Sectors

According to the minister, the parties are considering the possibility of joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles for various sectors: from the agro-industrial complex to reconnaissance operations. This could serve as a boost for both countries in developing modern technologies and enhancing competitiveness in the global market.

Support for Business and Investment in Innovation

During the negotiations, the governmental delegations of Ukraine and Japan also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in key sectors of the economy. Among the priorities are support for small and medium-sized enterprises, development of digital infrastructure, implementation of green energy, and restoration of industrial potential.

Andrii Sybiha noted that Japan remains one of Ukraine’s main economic partners in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as one of the largest donors contributing to the resilience and defense capability of the state. Japan has already provided Ukraine with over 15 billion dollars in aid and implemented 27 packages of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
