Increase in Electricity Consumption in Ukraine Due to Heat and Attacks on Energy Networks

In the frontline regions of Ukraine, attacks on energy infrastructure continue, leading to new power outages. According to the company “Ukrenergo”, as a result of the recent attacks in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions, additional disruptions in electricity supply have occurred. In areas where security conditions allow, emergency restoration work is already underway.

“As a result of the shelling, there are new power outages in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions as of this morning. Everywhere where security conditions permit, emergency restoration work has already begun.”

Weather Conditions Affect Electricity Consumption

According to “Ukrenergo”, electricity consumption in Ukraine is increasing. As of Thursday morning, this figure was 1.9% higher compared to the previous day. The reason for this is the prolonged heat in most regions, which has led to increased use of air conditioners in cooling mode.

Recommendations for the Public and the Situation in the Energy Sector

Given the increased load on the energy system, “Ukrenergo” advises citizens to plan their main electricity consumption during the hours of the most efficient operation of solar power plants – from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In the evening, especially from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the company urges for the economical use of electricity.

<p>The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, emphasized in March that Russian troops continue attempts to destroy the Ukrainian energy system. The Security Service of Ukraine qualifies strikes on energy facilities as crimes against humanity. Meanwhile, in early February 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, stated that Russia allegedly had not initiated attacks on civilian objects, blaming Ukraine for the initial strikes on energy infrastructure.
