IAEA Announces Start of Restoration of Electricity Supply to Zaporizhzhia NPP

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has announced the start of the process to restore external electricity supply to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). The work began thanks to the “Dnipro” and “Ferroalloy-1” lines after consultations with representatives from Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Restoration of Electricity Supply through Key Lines

According to the IAEA, the restoration of electricity supply became possible after a series of intensive negotiations with both parties over several weeks. The agency emphasized that the main focus was on ensuring safety during repair work on the damaged sections of the 750 kV “Dnipro” and 330 kV “Ferroalloy-1” power lines. These lines are located on different sides of the front line near the ZNPP, complicating the work.

Joint Efforts for Nuclear Safety

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi noted that it will take some time to fully restore the plant’s connection to the power grid. However, as emphasized by the agency, both sides are demonstrating constructive cooperation to achieve this important goal. The significance of this process lies in ensuring nuclear safety not only for the region but for all of Europe.

“After intensive consultations, the process of restoring external electricity supply has begun – through the ‘Dnipro’ and ‘Ferroalloy-1’ lines.

The IAEA stresses that further deterioration of the situation with the external electricity supply to the ZNPP is not in the interest of either party. The agency continues to monitor and coordinate efforts to ensure the safety of the facility.
