Experts point out that recently there have been reports of interest from both the USA and Russia in resuming operations of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. This resumption, if realized, could provide billions of euros that would fuel Putin’s war machine by financing the purchase of weapons, which continue to lead to the deaths of Ukrainians.

Western leaders must reject any initiatives related to the resumption of Russian gas pipelines and focus on strengthening sanctions. Europe cannot afford to halt its progress towards energy security. According to experts, a complete embargo on Russian fossil fuels is the only way to stop the funding of the war unleashed by Putin and to ensure lasting peace in Ukraine.
Economic Consequences of Restarting
If the pipeline is restarted, the Russian budget will receive an additional €4.7 billion annually. These funds, if directed towards military needs, could be used to finance 104,794 Shahed drones or 1,711 Iskander-M ballistic missiles.
Position of European Companies
Despite the mentioned risks, leaders of major European companies, including French firms Engie and TotalEnergies, have begun discussing the possibility of a moderate resumption of gas imports from Russia. They believe this could happen “if a sensible peace is achieved in Ukraine.”
