Fraser and Rachel, a couple from Lancashire, risked everything for their dream of owning a home. At just twenty years old, they purchased a small 4.5-acre plot for £15,500, which at the time was merely a “frozen mud pit.” The first days after moving in proved to be a true test: their mobile home was literally sinking in the mud, and the couple spent their first night with their dogs in the car.

Surviving Without Basic Amenities
Rachel recalls the beginning of this journey as an incredibly challenging period: the family had no electricity, heating, or running water. Domestic difficulties piled up one after another. On the second day, the refrigerator broke down, so they went without it for several years, and later the gas heater also failed. The only source of warmth on cold nights was the open oven. The biggest challenge was daily life: due to the lack of sewage, they had to dig new holes in the forest every day.
“It was definitely worth it; I would do it all again,” she assures her followers.
Technological Breakthrough and a New Chapter
After the birth of their daughter Grace, the situation gradually began to change. Ten months after her arrival, Fraser personally installed a solar power system, which provided stable electricity and running water. Later, as their son Alfie grew, the family had their own farm: a large greenhouse appeared, yielding their first significant harvest of vegetables.
Today, the couple’s plot has transformed into an example of ecological sustainability. They have set up their own poultry farm, providing the family with eggs, created an artificial pond for collecting and filtering rainwater, and have their own website and YouTube channel where they share their experiences and advise thousands on how to start a life on the land from scratch.
Despite all the challenges, Rachel is convinced that this path was the right one and has no regrets about what they went through. The family’s main dream is to build a permanent house on this land, which will become a true symbol of their relentless pursuit of independence and harmony with nature.
