Google and Warby Parker have announced the launch of a joint project aimed at creating smart glasses based on the Android XR operating system. These glasses, equipped with artificial intelligence, are expected to hit the market after 2025, including models with prescription lenses.

At the Google I/O 2025 conference, it was announced that the company will invest $150 million in the development of these new devices. The investment will be used for research and development, as well as for expanding production and distribution through Warby Parker’s retail channels. Specifically, Google has already invested $75 million in this initiative, and the remaining $75 million will be allocated upon achieving certain goals set by the partner company.
Innovations in Smart Glasses
The first models of the glasses are expected to include both corrective and regular versions, featuring multimodal AI. The partners emphasized that the new products will be designed with a focus on style, practicality, and user comfort.
Additionally, Google intends to expand its partnership in the XR device segment by collaborating with companies like Samsung and Gentle Monster. This move indicates the corporation’s ambition to create a competitive ecosystem of consumer AR products.
Market Strategy
The collaboration with Warby Parker resembles Meta’s strategy, which has already struck a deal with eyewear manufacturer Ray-Ban. The product of this collaboration has gained widespread recognition due to its visibility and market accessibility. Analysts believe that Google aims to achieve similar success by utilizing design solutions from Warby Parker.
It is worth noting that in February 2025, Google also announced its plans to invest up to $75 billion in artificial intelligence, which is 43% more than in 2023. However, specific details regarding what portion of these funds will be allocated to AI project development have not been disclosed.
