Germany to Provide Subsidies of Up to €6,000 for Electric Vehicle Purchases

The German government has approved an updated financial support program for citizens planning to purchase electric vehicles. According to the new rules, private buyers can receive a state subsidy, the amount of which will depend on the type of vehicle, the family’s income level, and the number of children in the household.

Conditions for Receiving the Subsidy and Program Features

The total amount of the subsidy will range from €1,500 to €6,000. Specifically, the base payment for fully electric vehicles will be €3,000, while for plug-in hybrid models it will be €1,500. For families with children and low income, the amount of assistance can reach €6,000. The program applies to new battery electric vehicles, certain plug-in hybrids, and vehicles with range extenders, provided they meet established low CO2 emission requirements or have sufficient electric range.

An additional condition for receiving the subsidy is that the vehicle must remain in the buyer’s ownership for at least 36 months.

Support for Climate and the European Industry

“The program supports the climate, the European automotive industry, and households that cannot afford an electric vehicle without assistance,” emphasized the head of the Ministry of the Environment, Carsten Schneider.

According to the ministry, by 2025, about 80% of new electric vehicles on the German market will be produced in European facilities. In the near future, even more affordable models from German manufacturers are expected to emerge, which will contribute to the expansion of the country’s electric vehicle fleet.

The program’s budget amounts to €3 billion and is designed to support approximately 800,000 electric vehicles from 2026 to 2029.
