Germany Allocates an Additional €32 Million for the Restoration of Ukraine’s Energy Sector

The German government has announced the provision of an additional €32 million in funding to the company “Ukrenergo” for the restoration of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of the winter period. The funds will be allocated through the Reconstruction Credit Institution (KfW), which has been collaborating with the Ukrainian side for many years.

Support for Ukraine’s Energy Sector

Since the early 2010s, “Ukrenergo” has received approximately €450 million in funding from the German government and the European Union. These funds are used for the construction of protective structures, the procurement of equipment and materials necessary for the restoration of damaged networks following Russian attacks on the country’s energy system. Germany remains one of the largest donors to the Ukrainian energy sector since the onset of the full-scale war.

Increased Aid to Ukraine in 2026

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Germany will additionally allocate €170 million to support Ukrainian infrastructure during the winter period. Furthermore, in 2026, Berlin plans to increase its aid to Kyiv by another €3 billion, bringing the total to €11.5 billion.

“We will support the Ukrainian people for as long as necessary. And we want to make frozen Russian assets available precisely for this purpose. Putin must realize that he has no chance of winning this war,” emphasized the Chancellor.

The grants and credit programs provided by the German government are critically important for ensuring the stable operation of Ukraine’s energy system under the challenging conditions of wartime.
