On May 26, natural gas prices in Ukraine reached a record high of ₴23,000 per 1000 cubic meters (including VAT). This price is the highest in the last two years, surpassing prices in the European market, as it translates to $458–466 per 1000 cubic meters or €38.15–38.83 per MWh. The difference from European indicators was €2 per MWh, the highest value since February 2024.

According to analysts, the rise in domestic prices is due to a significant demand-supply imbalance. However, the current spread is insufficient to restore full-scale commercial imports of natural gas to Ukraine, as it does not cover the entire margin.
New Gas Import Opportunities through Greece
If the difference between Ukrainian and European prices continues to grow, there is a high likelihood that private companies will resume gas imports to Ukraine. Meanwhile, the National Energy Regulatory Commission (NERC) has simplified the transportation of gas to Ukraine via the Trans-Balkan corridor. Now, the capacities for transporting gas through this route from Greece will be allocated through a single joint auction.
It is planned that about 3 million cubic meters of gas will be transported daily through this route, amounting to approximately 1 billion cubic meters per year. This is expected to create an alternative to Russian gas for Ukraine and other countries in the region, while also improving energy security.
Guaranteed Capacity from Poland
Additionally, Poland has confirmed guaranteed capacity for gas imports to Ukraine until October 2026.
“This is expected to create an alternative to Russian gas for Ukraine and the countries in the region and improve energy security.”
