New Fuel Sales Rules and Situation at Gas Stations
According to a statement by the so-called head of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, each buyer can purchase no more than 20 liters of AI-95 gasoline per refueling within a day. The restrictions took effect at 9:00 AM on May 30. Local authorities urge residents not to create artificial panic and not to stockpile gasoline, but to refuel their vehicles in a normal manner.
“The decision to limit the sale of AI-95 gasoline to no more than 20 liters per person once a day, starting from 9:00 AM on May 30, has been made… I ask Crimeans not to stockpile gasoline and to refuel their vehicles in a normal manner.”
A list of gas stations where fuel can currently be purchased for cash has been published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Fuel and Energy in Crimea. However, this information was only updated as of the evening of May 29, and most of the 148 gas stations primarily accept refueling by coupons.
Queues at Gas Stations and Residents’ Reactions
In Sevastopol, similar restrictions began on May 21, and there is already a noticeable increase in prices for various types of fuel. Videos have appeared on social media and Ukrainian Telegram channels showing drivers complaining about a severe fuel shortage. Local news outlets published photographs on May 30 of long lines of vehicles at gas stations, indicating a worsening situation regarding fuel supply.
Earlier reports mentioned a series of strikes by Ukrainian Defense Forces, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Main Intelligence Directorate on a fuel depot in Feodosia and ferry logistics in Kerch. Additionally, the Russian authorities in the occupied part of the Kherson region have restricted the movement of trucks towards Crimea from May 21 until “further notice.”
