In Ukraine, a significant increase in prices for gasoline and diesel fuel is expected starting January 1, 2026. According to experts’ forecasts, fuel prices will rise by approximately 1–1.5 UAH per liter, depending on the brand.

Main reasons for the increase in fuel prices
Experts explain that the rise in fuel prices in Ukraine is due to several key factors:
- Increase in excise taxes. Starting in 2026, amendments to the Tax Code will come into effect, which foresee an increase in excise taxes on gasoline, diesel fuel, and liquefied gas. This will directly lead to higher prices at gas stations.
- Seasonal factor. During the winter period, transportation and logistics costs traditionally rise, pushing energy prices upward.
- Fluctuations in international markets. The Ukrainian market is largely dependent on the import of petroleum products. Any changes in oil prices in Europe are quickly reflected in domestic prices.
“An increase in gasoline prices is expected to be within 1-1.5 UAH per liter. This is a result of new tax rates and the overall market dynamics reacting to European quotations,” noted Sergey Kuyun, director of the consulting group “A-95”.
Forecasts for fuel prices at the beginning of 2026
According to analysts’ estimates, at the beginning of 2026, the average price of A-95 gasoline may reach 59–60 UAH per liter, while diesel fuel will cost around 57–58 UAH per liter. The most significant increase is expected for gasoline, while diesel will rise somewhat less.
Experts warn that even a slight increase in fuel prices can affect transportation costs, which will consequently provoke an increase in the prices of goods and services in the domestic market.
Economists advise drivers to refuel their vehicles by the end of December while current prices are in effect and to consider the potential increase in transportation costs after the New Year holidays.
