New Investment Opportunities for Professionals
The Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund invests in short-term U.S. government securities. The fund features a tokenized structure that enables faster transactions, greater transparency, and reduced costs compared to traditional investment funds. The fund is registered in Luxembourg and is currently available to institutional and professional investors in Hong Kong with a minimum investment threshold of HKD 8 million (over USD 1 million). The company is also working on creating a product for retail investors.
“This launch reflects our ongoing commitment to providing innovative investment solutions that meet the needs of modern investors, expanding the accessibility of tokenized products in this dynamic market,” said Tariq Ahmad, head of Franklin Templeton in the Asia-Pacific region.
Partnership with HSBC and OSL: Joint Development of Digital Finance
Together with HSBC and OSL Group, the operator of Hong Kong’s first licensed digital asset platform, Franklin Templeton is participating in the HKMA Project Ensemble pilot project. This initiative explores the potential use of tokenized deposits to service transactions for OSL clients. HSBC representatives emphasized the importance of this partnership in providing nearly instantaneous 24/7 settlements for tokenized money market funds.
Sandy Kaul, head of innovation at Franklin Templeton, highlighted the company’s intention to collaborate with traditional financial institutions and Web3 platforms to accelerate the development of tokenized financial products and shape the future of investing.
The fund’s launch is closely tied to the Fintech 2030 plan, which includes over 40 initiatives in artificial intelligence, the formation of a tokenized ecosystem, and the creation of infrastructure for settlements with tokenized deposits that may eventually be integrated with central bank digital currency (CBDC).
Brian Chen, head of asset management at OSL, stated that Hong Kong is gradually becoming a reliable institutional hub for digital assets and expressed expectations for the introduction of Franklin Templeton’s tokenized fund to professional investors in the region.
Franklin Templeton’s activities in Hong Kong are part of the company’s global tokenization strategy. In particular, in September 2025, in collaboration with DBS and Ripple Labs, the company introduced an institutional solution based on the XRP Ledger, which included the tokenized fund sgBENJI and the stablecoin RLUSD. In April, it was reported that Franklin Templeton is considering launching an exchange-traded crypto product (ETP) in Europe.
