Germany Supports Increased Pressure on the Kremlin

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul also expressed support for increasing U.S. sanctions pressure on Russia. According to him, the goal of such actions is to compel the Kremlin to engage in genuine peace negotiations with Ukraine.

The head of the German Chancellor’s Office, Thorsten Frei, emphasized the need to revisit the issue of confiscating Russian assets, given the Russian Federation’s refusal of peace initiatives.

“Currently, we are facing the heaviest shelling since the beginning of the war. Therefore, it is fair that Russian money is used for necessary defense purposes,”

he stressed.

U.S. Senate Prepares New Sanctions Against Russia

Republican U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham announced an initiative to impose stricter sanctions against Russia before the G7 summit, which will take place from June 15-17 in Canada. In a joint statement with Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, they emphasized that new restrictions should be adopted in coordination with European partners by mid-June. They believe this will send a clear signal to China, India, and other states that facilitate the Kremlin’s circumvention of sanctions.

During his visit to Kyiv, Lindsey Graham stated that the U.S. Senate will begin considering a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation as early as this week.
