New Restrictions for Teenagers in France
The National Assembly of France plans to fast-track the consideration of a bill on January 26 that prohibits online platforms from providing their services to children under 15 years old. This document was developed by MP Laur Miller from the Renaissance party. Furthermore, the bill proposes a complete ban on the use of mobile phones in the country’s secondary schools.
Reasons for the Initiative and Government Position
Laur Miller proposed these changes back in November 2025, following the completion of a parliamentary investigation into the psychological impact of TikTok on teenagers, in which she was the lead rapporteur. Since then, the bill has been revised multiple times to ensure compliance with European Union legislation and to avoid legal conflicts.
French President Emmanuel Macron called on Parliament to pass the social media bill as soon as possible so that it can take effect before the start of the new school year.
The adoption of these regulations is expected to significantly impact the digital environment and the level of online safety for teenagers in France.
