Dynamics of the Ukrainian Electric Vehicle Market
Despite the positive dynamics on a monthly basis, when compared to April 2025, a 48% decrease in demand for electric vehicles was recorded. The majority of registrations traditionally consisted of passenger cars — 2,837 units. It is worth noting that the secondary market prevails: only 19% of the total number of passenger electric cars (536 vehicles) were new, while 81% (2,301 vehicles) were used. In the commercial electric transport segment, this trend is even more pronounced: of the 170 registered vehicles, only 9 units were new.

Among new electric vehicles in April, Chinese manufacturers led the market. In first place is the BYD Leopard 3 (96 vehicles), followed by the BYD Sea Lion 06 (73 vehicles), MG 4 EV (38 vehicles), Volkswagen ID.UNYX (36 vehicles), and Zeekr 001 (33 vehicles).
In the category of used electric cars, the most in-demand models were: Nissan Leaf (345 vehicles), Tesla Model Y (283 vehicles), Tesla Model 3 (265 vehicles), Renault Zoe (120 vehicles), and Chevrolet Bolt (117 vehicles).
“For their part, Ukrainians have proposed an alternative – taxing electric vehicle owners based on actual mileage.”
At the same time, discussions are ongoing in government circles about the possibility of introducing a special fee for electric vehicle owners who do not pay the fuel excise tax. As an alternative, Ukrainians suggest implementing a tax that would depend on the actual mileage of the electric vehicle.
