The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, has confirmed Prague’s intention to intensify economic cooperation with Ukraine, seeing significant opportunities for the development of its own economy.

As part of its support for Kyiv, the Czech Republic has provided economic assistance, including the transfer of generators worth a total of CZK 80 million (approximately ₴136 million). A wind power plant has also been built in western Ukraine with a Czech investment of CZK 61 million (about ₴114.85 million). The Prime Minister noted that new projects are being prepared, particularly in the transportation sector.

Opportunities for Cooperation in Various Sectors

Fiala also emphasized that there is potential for strengthening cooperation in nuclear energy. “Cooperation with Ukraine is a great opportunity for Czech business and the Czech economy,” he stressed.

The Prime Minister provided figures that confirm the growth of economic contacts: last year, Czech exports to Ukraine increased by 75% compared to 2022, reaching CZK 45 billion (approximately ₴76.5 billion). “Czech companies are ready to play an active role in reconstruction, particularly of key infrastructure, and cooperation can develop in other sectors as well,” he added.

Situation of Ukrainian Refugees

Regarding Ukrainian refugees, Fiala noted that the Czech Republic has accepted the largest number of Ukrainians per capita and has already employed 160,000 of them. However, a final decision on their status after the temporary protection program ends in March 2026 has yet to be made, and it will all depend on the “development of the current situation.”
