Importance of the Agreement for Security
On CBS, Markarova emphasized that the agreement is an important part of the broader security architecture of Ukraine. Responding to comments from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin about Russia “bringing the war to the desired outcome,” the ambassador remarked:
“It doesn’t matter how we interpret what he says.”
Markarova also stressed that
“we simply need to understand that he is a threat not only to Ukraine but to everyone who believes that nations should live peacefully, not dispute each other’s borders, and focus on economic cooperation”
. She added that Putin is acting in concert with Iran and North Korea, which confirms their support for terrorist regimes.
Future of the Partnership
Commenting on the recently signed agreement between Ukraine and the U.S., Markarova assured that it will be a true 50-50 partnership.
“Future U.S. investments, including military contracts, will be counted as contributions to the fund. And Ukraine will invest funds from new licenses and projects”
, she noted.
The ambassador emphasized that
“this economic partnership agreement is itself a very important part of the broader security architecture”
, and also pointed out that the fund will only be successful if there is stability and peace in Ukraine. Thus, this agreement is expected to be an important part of future security guarantees.
Markarova added that Ukraine and the U.S. are
“working very actively”
on the swift implementation of the agreement.
