Details of the incident and investigation
According to the police of the Chernivtsi region, the trees fell on the playground due to strong gusts of wind. As a result of the incident, two girls born in 2015 and 2014 were seriously injured. Currently, investigators have initiated a pre-trial investigation under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – negligent serious or moderate bodily harm. Law enforcement is determining the circumstances of the event and interviewing witnesses.
“Yesterday, a report was received on the special line 101 about the injury of two minors due to bad weather. The incident occurred in the city of Novoselytsia, where a tree fell on the playground due to strong gusts of wind, where two minors — born in 2015 and 2014 — were present. The children were hospitalized with serious injuries to medical facilities in the cities of Chernivtsi and Novoselytsia,” the rescuers reported.

According to meteorologists, at the end of April, a sharp drop in temperature is observed across Ukraine, with nighttime frosts and precipitation in the form of wet snow in some areas. In particular, in the northern and central regions, air temperatures may drop below zero. Strong gusts of wind were also forecasted, which caused the emergency event in Bukovina.
