Bitcoin.com has announced a partnership with the blockchain platform Concordium to introduce age verification mechanisms for stablecoin payments. The new feature will be based on zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) technology, allowing users to confirm their age or other identification details without disclosing personal information.

ZKP Technology and Data Protection
The integration will enable Bitcoin.com wallet holders to verify compliance with age restrictions (e.g., 18+) or requirements of specific jurisdictions without revealing their personal data. This will be made possible through the application of ZKP technology. Verification will be conducted through third-party intermediaries, and the information will not be stored on the blockchain, reducing the risks of data breaches or theft of personal information.
“Each transaction generates a zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) that is used to verify compliance with established requirements. Personal data remains hidden in the process.”
Response to Legislative Requirements and Market Impact
According to Bitcoin.com CEO Corbin Fraser, the implementation of such solutions is an important step for scaling the cryptocurrency sector and adhering to regulatory standards. The launch of the new feature is a response to the increasing legislative initiatives in Europe and the U.S. aimed at establishing age limits for transactions involving digital assets.
Both Bitcoin.com and Concordium believe that such restrictions could impact the adoption of stablecoins, which are seen as a convenient and accessible tool for transactions in the digital economy.
As early as August 2025, the Concordium team presented an age verification application based on ZKP, which has already been adopted by projects like Coin98 and Safle. With this application, users can undergo age verification and confirm payments without disclosing unnecessary information.
It is worth noting that the implementation of age restrictions in digital services is becoming increasingly relevant. Recently, the platform Character.ai also announced the introduction of an age limit for access to open chats, reflecting a general trend towards enhancing the protection of minors in the digital space.
