Congresswoman Maxine Waters has introduced bill HR 3573, aimed at prohibiting government officials and their families from earning income from crypto projects while in office. This bill, known as the «Stop TRUMP in Crypto Act of 2025», is directly targeted at U.S. President Donald Trump and his cryptocurrency business.

The introduction of the bill comes in the wake of events that have sparked widespread public outcry. On May 22, a dinner was held for major investors in the TRUMP token, attended by 220 people, more than half of whom were foreigners. The event became the focus of protests as over 100 demonstrators gathered outside Trump’s golf club, demanding an end to «crypto-corruption».
Criticism of Trump’s Cryptocurrency Businesses
In her comments, Maxine Waters emphasized that «Trump’s cryptocurrency scam is not just a fraud targeting investors. It is also a dangerous backdoor for selling influence over American politics to the highest bidder among foreigners.» She also mentioned meme coins associated with the Trump family and the stablecoin USD1 launched by World Liberty Financial.
Support for the Bill
The bill has garnered support from 14 out of 23 Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee. This indicates the possibility of the document being passed, which could significantly impact Trump’s financial interests. It is known that in May 2025, the Trump family earned approximately $2 billion, while the president’s total crypto assets are estimated at $2.9 billion.
