EU Expands Sanctions Against Shadow Fleet and Cyber Threats
On December 15, the EU Council decided to strengthen restrictions against Russia by imposing sanctions on five individuals and four companies linked to the activities of the Russian shadow fleet. The sanctions list includes businessmen connected to companies such as Rosneft and Lukoil. Also included are shipping companies from the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and Russia that own or operate tankers used to circumvent sanctions.
In addition, the EU has imposed restrictions on another twelve individuals and two organizations in response to ongoing hybrid actions by Russia, which include information manipulation and cyberattacks against EU countries and their allies.
“The sanctions list also includes shipping companies from the UAE, Vietnam, and Russia that own or manage tankers of the shadow fleet.”
Switzerland Synchronizes Sanctions with the EU
Switzerland has also announced new sanctions against Russia and Belarus, synchronizing its restrictions with the 19th EU package adopted in October. The measures target 22 individuals and 42 companies operating in the military industry, energy sector, banking sector, and Russia’s shadow fleet. Additionally, Switzerland has imposed a ban on providing services for 116 vessels, primarily tankers of the shadow fleet.
