US and EU Sanctions Against Russia: What is Known About New Measures

The President of Ukraine’s Commissioner for Sanctions Policy, Vladyslav Vlasuk, reported expectations of new sanctions measures from the US and EU against the Russian Federation. According to him, it is currently difficult to predict what the US policy will be on this issue, but undoubtedly, American partners continue to prepare options for strengthening sanctions.

Vlasuk emphasized that the American side is actively gathering information on mechanisms to counter the activities of the “shadow fleet” and the Russian defense-industrial complex. “Financial and banking sanctions are being prepared. And as soon as there is an indication from the White House, sanctions updates from American partners can be adopted very quickly. They will certainly be supported by British partners,” he noted in his statement.

Furthermore, Vlasuk pointed out that the European Union currently has no ready solutions, but work on the 17th sanctions package is ongoing. “Realistically, it will only be possible to talk about its adoption at the end of May. Certainly not earlier,” the commissioner added. He believes that sanctions are a “truly important element of deterrence” for the Russian Federation, and Ukraine is actively cooperating with international partners to achieve stronger sanctions.
