EU and UK Respond to US Tariffs: Countermeasures Worth $28 Billion

According to Reuters, the EU has already faced the introduction of 25% import tariffs on steel, aluminum, and cars, as well as “reciprocal” tariffs of 20% on most other goods. These tariffs cover about 70% of EU exports to the US, which amount to approximately €532 billion.

On Monday evening, the European Commission plans to present a list of American goods that will be subject to new tariffs. Their total value is estimated to reach $28 billion. Among the potential targeted items are meat, grains, wine, wood, clothing, as well as pilot jackets and toilet paper.

At the same time, the UK has prepared a 400-page list that includes 8,000 categories of American goods that may be subject to new tariffs in response to Trump’s actions. This list covers approximately 27% of British imports from the US. Consultations with businesses will continue over the next four weeks. The British government aims to reach an agreement with the United States and will consider all possible options.
