Agricultural Enterprises Became the Most Unprofitable in Ukraine in the First Quarter of 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, large and medium-sized Ukrainian enterprises concluded the reporting period with a total financial result of ₴241.2 billion. As noted by the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Danilo Hetmantsev, this is ₴12.4 billion or 4.9% less than in the same period of 2024, when the profit amounted to ₴253.6 billion.

Sectoral Distribution of Financial Results

The industrial sector accounted for almost 38% of the total positive financial result — ₴91.5 billion. Meanwhile, the financial and banking sector contributed an additional 30.2%, equivalent to ₴72.9 billion. The total profit of enterprises with a positive balance for January-March amounted to ₴304.6 billion, which is 4.7% less than last year.

The total loss of enterprises that ended the quarter in the negative reached ₴63.4 billion, or 96.1% of last year’s figure. The share of loss-making companies in the economy’s structure was 26.8% during the first three months of the year.

Leaders in Terms of Losses

“The worst situation was recorded in agriculture, where 56.3% of enterprises were unprofitable (compared to 38.2% last year).”

A particularly challenging situation is observed in the healthcare sector: the share of loss-making organizations increased from 29.8% to 49.7%. The situation is equally tense in the transport, warehousing, and postal courier sectors — here, 42.9% of enterprises were unprofitable compared to 38.6% last year.

At the same time, the hotel and restaurant business demonstrated significant improvement: the loss rate in this sector decreased from 64.1% to 29.7%.
