Sanctions Against Judges for Sentences Against Prisoners of War and Public Figures

The restrictive measures concern 41 judges: 38 of them are citizens of the Russian Federation, while three are collaborators. The sanctions have been imposed due to their involvement in issuing illegal sentences against Ukrainian prisoners of war and supporting the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

“The sanctions package includes 41 judges, of which 38 are citizens of Russia, and three are collaborators. They have issued illegal sentences for the imprisonment of prisoners of war and support and justify Russian aggression against Ukraine,” the President’s Office reported.

Among those on the sanctions list is a Russian judge who, within a week, issued sentences against nine Ukrainian prisoners of war on charges of terrorism. Also included in the sanctions are individuals who sentenced foreign volunteers to death in temporarily occupied Donetsk — two citizens of the United Kingdom and one citizen of Morocco, who served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and were captured by Russia.

Additionally, restrictions have been imposed on judges who made illegal decisions against public figures, activists, and journalists due to their political or religious beliefs.

Expansion of Sanctions for Russian Companies

In addition to the judges, President Zelensky has extended sanctions against 11 Russian companies whose restrictions were set to expire. The initial sanctions against these enterprises were imposed in 2021 and 2023, and during this time, three companies have already been completely liquidated.

Among the enterprises included in the new sanctions package are a company for the repair and maintenance of aviation equipment, including Ka and Mi helicopters, a company for the development and production of drones, as well as firms that illegally operate in the temporarily occupied Crimean Peninsula and were involved in the construction of the Crimean Bridge.

The President’s Office reported that Ukraine plans to share information about the sanctions imposed with international partners for further synchronization of restrictive measures in their jurisdictions.

Earlier, in February, Zelensky had already signed decrees imposing sanctions against Russian scientists, heads of occupation administrations, and organizations that spread propaganda and distort history.
