Energy specialists explained why, despite the challenging situation in the energy system, some regions of Ukraine do not experience power outages. The differences in the disconnection schedules are primarily related to the consequences of attacks by the Russian army on the country’s energy infrastructure.

Differences in Outages Are Linked to Infrastructure Damage
As reported by the press service of ‘Ukrenergo’, the enemy continues to deliberately attack electricity generation facilities and strikes the transmission and distribution networks, especially in frontline and border regions with Russia. As a result, certain areas experience significant supply disruptions, while others may even have a surplus of capacity.
“The enemy’s goal is not only to ensure that there are no operating power plants in a certain territory of Ukraine but also to make it as difficult as possible to transmit electricity from other regions to them,” energy specialists emphasize.
Restrictions in Ukraine’s Energy System
The company emphasized that the country’s energy system was not designed to operate under conditions of large-scale destruction. Therefore, the ability to transmit electricity over long distances is significantly limited. Energy specialists are forced to impose restrictions in regions located along the route from power plants and international interconnectors to the networks of energy-deficient areas. Meanwhile, in those regions where electricity transit does not occur, there is no deficit, so there is no need for outages.
Thus, the varying duration and frequency of power outages in different regions are not a sign of injustice but a direct consequence of Russian shelling, which has significantly damaged generation and transmission networks in certain areas.
