Scale of Attacks and Their Consequences for Energy
Olexiy Kucherenko, a member of parliament and first deputy head of the energy committee of the Verkhovna Rada, reported that Russia has been systematically targeting gas extraction facilities, particularly the infrastructure of Naftogaz of Ukraine. Such actions cause disruptions in the supply of blue fuel and may threaten the provision of large cities, where backup heating and electricity generation systems depend on stable gas supplies.
The Need to Protect Infrastructure and Accumulate Reserves
According to Kucherenko, the issue of protecting gas infrastructure should become one of the main directions of state policy. He emphasized the need not only to strengthen the defense of facilities but also to actively accumulate gas reserves in underground storage to ensure the stable operation of the energy sector even in the event of new attacks.
“In recent weeks, the Russian Federation has been deliberately striking gas extraction facilities, particularly the infrastructure of Naftogaz of Ukraine, attacking wells and gas collection nodes.”
