In Ukraine, Price Increases for Milk are Forecasted Due to Raw Material Shortages and Exports

In Ukraine, an increase in the cost of raw milk is expected in the near future, which may lead to higher prices for dairy products for consumers. The main reasons for this trend are the shortage of raw materials in the domestic market and the rising prices of butter.

Restoration of Exports to the EU and Raw Material Shortages

Industry experts note that after Ukraine received expanded quotas for the export of dairy products to the European Union, a significant portion of domestic products is directed to external markets. This has already led to a certain shortage of raw milk within the country. Dairy processing enterprises are forced to actively seek cheaper raw materials to meet production needs.

“Ukraine has resumed the supply of dairy products to Europe, and a slight shortage of raw milk has even emerged in the domestic market. Dairy processing plants have started looking for cheaper milk,” the report states.

Milk Prices in Supermarkets and Influencing Factors

According to analysts, the market is experiencing a stable increase in the profitability of dairy production; however, there is also a trend of rising purchase prices for raw milk. Among the main factors are the increased demand for exchange-traded dairy products for export to the EU and the rising cost of butter. It is forecasted that in the second half of July and August, purchase prices may be revised upwards, especially if the prices of butter continue to rise.

In the retail market, price increases for certain types of milk are already being recorded. As of July 14, popular milk “Yagotynske 2.6%” (900 ml) averages 59.39 UAH, which is nearly 5 UAH more than in June. In various retail chains, the price ranges from 56.3 to 64.5 UAH:

  • Megamarket – 64.5 UAH
  • Auchan – 56.3 UAH
  • Metro – 58.76 UAH
  • Novus – 57.99 UAH

At the same time, milk “Prostonashe 1%” (900 ml) averages 53.56 UAH. In the Metro chain, it can be purchased for 49.82 UAH, while in Megamarket it costs 57.3 UAH.
