Ukraine is Changing the Voltage Standard to 230V: What You Need to Know

Starting July 1, Ukraine will change its voltage standard: it will be increased from 220V to 230V. This change will not affect the amounts on electricity bills.

This is reported by Finway

“Your bills will not change. You pay for the electricity consumed, that is, kilowatt-hours. Voltage is just the pressure in the system, not the amount of electricity. There will be no new figures on the receipts because of this”

, the DTEK company explains.

What to Do in Case of High Voltage?

If the voltage in your home consistently exceeds 240V, this is not a result of the transition to 230V. It is a local issue that may be related to the transformer or electrical line in your building. It is recommended to contact your operator through the chatbot in the “Possible Outages” section.

If the voltage fluctuates between 200V and 240V, this is within the acceptable norm, as the standard allows up to 253V. You simply need to set the relay: the lower threshold at 207V and the upper at 253V. If the relay does not trip, everything is functioning correctly. The relay should stabilize at 230V. Is this normal? It is ideal. Such a reading indicates that the network is operating under the new standard, steadily and without overloads.

Why the Transition to 230V is Important

This step is part of Ukraine’s gradual integration into the European energy space. Under the new standards, clear limits for acceptable voltage deviation are established – from 207V to 253V (±10% of the nominal value). This will ensure greater stability in the operation of electrical appliances and bring the technical parameters of the Ukrainian energy system closer to European standards.
