Strategic Importance of the Energy Corridor
During a meeting with media representatives in Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that work on the energy corridor is ongoing, and it will be technically equipped by the end of the year. Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the Bulgarian side for the fruitful dialogue and cooperation between the energy ministers of both countries.
“We are working to establish an active energy corridor. I am grateful for today’s conversation, as well as for the productive work of our ministers, especially those in energy, who have contributed. This corridor will be technically equipped, and we hope it will be completed by the end of the year.”
Energy Security Guarantees for Ukraine
The President emphasized the importance of this project for the country’s energy security, highlighting that the corridor could become a key alternative in case of blocked energy resource supplies, particularly gas, from some European countries. It is expected that through the new route, Ukraine will be able to import up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas annually, significantly strengthening the country’s energy independence.
In this context, it is important to note the recent decisions by Slovakia to halt emergency electricity and diesel fuel supplies to Ukraine, underscoring the need to diversify energy sources. The opening of the corridor with Bulgaria will be a strategic step towards enhancing Ukraine’s energy resilience by 2026.
