Charges Against Russian Soldiers for Crimes Against Civilians
One of the servicemen of the Russian army, who was part of the “Wolves” battalion of the 16th GRU brigade of the Russian General Staff, has been charged with serious offenses against civilians. According to law enforcement, in March 2022, during the occupation of the village of Kachaly, he, along with other occupiers, conducted searches in the homes of peaceful residents.
“Threatening to kill, the occupier forced a woman with minor children to leave her own home, after which the family was deprived of the opportunity to live in their residence until the end of the occupation,” the prosecutor’s office reports.
The actions of the suspect have been classified as cruel treatment of civilians, which constitutes a war crime under international and Ukrainian law.
Case Transferred to Court: Rape and Threats
Another Russian serviceman, the commander of a motorized rifle company of the 64th separate motorized rifle brigade, is also accused of cruel treatment of civilians. The case against him has been transferred to court. According to the prosecutor’s office, during the occupation of the village of Andriivka, he threatened local residents with death to suppress resistance.
The prosecutor’s office notes that taking advantage of the defenselessness of a civilian woman, this soldier raped a Ukrainian woman, inflicting severe physical and moral suffering on her.
The Kyiv region was under partial occupation from February 24 to March 31, 2022, and was fully liberated in early April of the same year. After the withdrawal of Russian troops, numerous cases of the murder of peaceful citizens were discovered in the settlements of the region, and evidence of mass crimes committed by the occupiers was collected.
Despite numerous testimonies, Moscow does not acknowledge the facts of war crimes committed by its military on the territory of Ukraine.
