The team of U.S. President Donald Trump intends to finalize 90 trade deals during a 90-day customs pause. EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič will arrive in the U.S. on April 14 for negotiations. At the same time, Trump’s chief tariff negotiator, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, will be in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

“We will strike 90 deals in 90 days. It’s possible. Ultimately, Trump, the boss, will be the chief negotiator. Nothing gets signed without his thorough review,” the White House stated.
However, experts question the administration’s ability to manage such a large number of parallel negotiations. Wendy Cutler, former chief negotiator at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, noted:
“They have the obligation to prove that they can swiftly finalize deals with countries to restore confidence among markets and partners and show that there is a way out of this situation. Achieving agreements that satisfy both Trump and the financial markets is a monumental task. There is no chance of reaching a comprehensive deal with even one country during this time.”
It is also worth noting that the U.S. has raised tariffs on Chinese imports to 145%, to which Beijing responded by increasing tariffs on all American goods to 125%. Meanwhile, some electronic devices, such as smartphones, computers, chips, as well as semiconductors, solar panels, flat-screen televisions, flash drives, memory cards, and data storage drives, have been exempted from tariffs.
